Music Education at Work - Our Songwriting Contests for Kids

Songwriting Contests for Kids shows Music Education in Action

More Bios and songs from Impressive Violettes Youth Competition Children from 2015. Violettes by Becky is a Gifts for Musicians company, giving back to youth music education.Entering a songwriting contest for kids, gives a child a goal, then an accomplishment to be proud of. The process is so much fun, it is hard to realize that they are getting a music education. Actually, I tried writing several songs myself last year. I have great fun with the words, but turned it over to a professional with the music. I did try first though! So I know how really really hard this is. Just playing with the words in song, I learned a lot about what might and might not fit easily in song form. However, I couldn't produce any version to satisfy myself.Note the ages and years quoted are from last year when they entered.

(This and That)
I'm alright, I got this and that.
I'm alright, I got my shoes tied...
I got my smile ready to go,
I got this and that,
in my head for so long.
Just Let It Glow,
Let it flow,
Let it grow.
I'm alright, I got this and that,
I'm alright.
Got my shoes tied,
got my smile ready to go
I got..this and that,
in my head for so long
just let it Glow!
just let it flow,
just let it grow,
I'm  alright, I got this and that
I'm alright.
I watch the sunset
as I rise up, from the depths
I got this and that,
In my head for so long...

Music Education, Songwriter ContestLookin' Out the Window" by Emma Rowe, age 11 from Tennessee

Emma is homeschooled. The oldest of three girls, she enjoys singing, acting, cooking, swimming, and especially cats. She is also fond of writing. In addition to singing, Emma plays guitar, piano, and violin. She has been a part of Sonshine Co. theatre troupe for four years and Erin Youth Players for one season. Emma collaborates with the director of Sonshine to write the original plays the company puts on every spring. She did this last year and is in the process of doing it for this year's show. Emma loves 80's and 90's country singers, her favorite being George Strait, who she hopes to meet someday. She is now working on writing her newest country-style song called "Baby", influenced by all of the country CDs her dad plays. She also got to see Garth Brooks live. Emma thoroughly enjoyed entering the Violettes Music Competition this spring. She thanks all of the people who inspire her to do what she does.

"Lookin' Out the Window"
By Emma Lillian Rowe
Man:
Who's that girl lookin' out the window at me? She's pretty!
Neighbor1:
Stays up late and watches TV, like her ma very uniquely.
She's very innocent like her pa, though most of the time he chews on straw!

Man:

Who's that girl lookin' out the window at me? She's pretty!
Girl:
Who's that man lookin' out the window at me? He's handsome!
Neighbor2:
No news on the radio, like his ma, she says it's as bad as a raccon's claw.
Like his father in every way, goes into the loft and throws down hay!
Girl:
Who's that man lookin' out the window at me? He's handsome!
Neighbor1:
Who's that couple lookin' out the window at us? They're sweet!

Neighbor2:

Probably a couple kids goin' to Mars, you know, on Mars, they don't use cars!
I used to be a lover like them, too, your brother was, what about you?(Repeat all)CODA
Neighbor1:
Who's that girl?
Neighbor2:
Who's that man?
Both Neighbors:
Who's that couple?
