Vitamin P For Practice: This picture comes as an over-sized 9 in. by 11 in. Post Card. This painting idea came up when I finally entered the Nashville Tomato Festival Gallery after hearing for many years that the festival has an excellent reputation for selling art. I was required to make a painting with a tomato in it. The idea was a natural, and the original got snapped right up. I can’t wait to enter again. And I can’t wait to see what their theme will inspire. Last year, when I painted this, it was “Tomatoes Unite”. The back of the post card says Vitamin P for Practice.

The good old “Flute Angel”. I was exhibiting at the Tennessee Music Teacher Association convention, and several music teachers/flute players were congregated in my booth. One asked me if I would paint a flute angel. I commented that it would be a great idea. This woman came back to my booth a couple of times during the convention, and we decided (I actually don’t remember if it was her idea or mine) that the “Practice Tip” or rather “playing excuse” written on the back of the card should say “I Played It Perfectly At Home”. (I have a series of paintings that are music excuses. If you have a good excuse for me to paint, don’t hesitate to let me know about it so that I can paint it.) When we thought of that, we both laughed loud and hard. I have heard that flute teachers hear that a lot during lessons. I admit, that as an adult student, I have said it many times in my lesson too! It is easy to be tense and squeak in front of your teacher in a lesson. I was for a long time intimidated in my lessons because I was playing in front of a symphony flutist!

My work was in a local Hallmark store for a while. This card didn’t sell. It was popular in music teacher conferences with music teachers, but otherwise, a non-seller. When I took a few cards that I really like and changed the messages on the backs of the cards to be more of a public message instead of a music lesson, this card became “The Devil Made Me Do It!”. Then the card started selling. That was pretty exciting.

So let me tell you about the painting, which by the way, is a large hanging non-mounted hanging canvas 42 in. by 51 in. It is a picture of myself in my wedding dress, kind of - The dress has pictures of homes. Also the little devil forking the flute player’s fingers.

Remember Your Pencil.JPG

Remember to Use Your Pencil. I love this painting. It is painted on a 16 in. by 20 in. by 7/8 inch clayboard. It is relatively new, painted during the Covid time at home, so I have not yet made it into prints or cards. I would be glad to print it for you if you want to send a request to Becky@MusicTeacherGifts.com. Of course Asians have the reputation of being smart and studious. And it was a slam dunk easy idea to think of. How many pencils can I put in the painting? Let me know if I left something out?!

The End.
